Engineering Technician
+ Position Description
The Engineering Technician will support the engineering team in the design, development, and optimization of machine processes and automation, in the areas of forming, threading, plastic injection molding, and assembly operations.
This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving processes and equipment to ensure efficient production high-quality output. Engineering Technician assists in machine startups and shutdown, equipment set-up and programming, assists production or engineering runs.
The engineering technician identifies and applies solutions to yield or quality problems within documented instructions and provides technical assistance to engineering and production personnel using scientific applications and root-cause analysis techniques.
This position will report to Engineering Technician Supervisor.
This position will be a full-time regular with overtime as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with related experience in a mechanical or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to obtain certification to operate powered industrial equipment, including power trucks, hoists, slings, and other mechanical assist devices.
- Demonstrated ability to use hands and arms effectively in a hands-on production and technical support role.
- Commitment to working safely and effectively in a hands-on production and technical support role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical training in tooling design, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience with forming, threading, plastic injection molding, and/or automated assembly operations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting production equipment, injection molding machines, and automated systems.
- Familiarity with process control, statistical process monitoring , and quality assurance techniques.
- Attention to detail with the ability to visually inspect components and assemblies for accuracy and quality.
- Ability to use and interpret technical software, production monitoring systems, and digital quality tools to support troubleshooting and process improvement.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills, including use of common software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, data entry systems).
- Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Working knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry to support measurement, setup, and process calculations.
Technical Knowledge:
- Collaborate with engineers to develop, validate, and implement manufacturing processes for forming, threading,plastic injection molding, and assembly operations.
- Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and enhance product quality.
- Able to analyze and solve problems, make sound decisions, conduct fact finding and root cause analysis.
- Set up equipment per process standard, where applicable.
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings, flowcharts and specifications.
- Assist with identification of materials and ensure traceability throughout the process.
- Respond to calls from operators regarding product/process questions and/or concerns.
- Comply with all quality policies and procedures.
- Able to adapt to various computer systems and software to enable efficient data gathering, analysis and reporting.
- Able to process and compile large amounts of data, traceability information and record keeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Project Management and Planning:
- Able to develop plans to organize and complete work in accordance with daily priority listing.
- Support engineering trials, tooling changes, and new product launches, ensuring readiness of equipment, materials, and documentation.
- Perform tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, ownership, and attention to detail.
Continuous Improvement:
- Actively participate in team discussions and improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, safety, and product quality.
- Identify opportunities for automation, waste reduction, and process optimization, and assist in implementing approved improvements.
- Program, operate, and adjust automated equipment (robots, molding machines, forming presses, threading units, and assembly systems) to ensure optimal performance.
- Regularly discusses work ideas with others in an effort to increase overall team productivity.
Documentation:
- Document and report on process performance, maintenance activities, and quality issues.
- Assist in the creation and revision of forms or procedures for technical processes.
- Perform proper changeover checklist and procedures during equipment and product changeovers.
Environmental:
- Participate in all safety activities and procedures.
- Comply with all safety and environmental procedures and requirements.
- Actively follow 5S principles and works to sustain and/or improve efforts.
- Know the significant environmental aspects and proper handling for your area.
- Know the environmental policy and what it means.
- Follow correct waste handling procedures.
- Complete timely housekeeping duties.
- Understand the benefits and consequences to the environmental procedures.
